The shelters include sustainable solutions for climate control and waste water. The heating system is based on an air-to-water heat pump. An on-site sewage facility (OSSF) has been installed to treat the waste water. The OSSF purifies the waste water and then allows it to dissipate into the soil.

Embedded in the concrete floor, the shelters still have huge steel doors which were previously used to protect the F16s during air raids. The original features in the shelters create an interesting contrast with the high-tech equipment and the green surroundings.

Availability of shelters

A large number of the existing buildings are already occupied, but seven shelters are currently still available – five of which are alongside the former taxiway and two in the cluster of shelters called ‘druiventros’. The shelters offer between 600 and 700m2 of commercial and office space. We work with you as the first occupant to explore how the interior of the shelter can be tailored to your needs.

Flexible workspaces

At Space53, a former F16 shelter with 1.2m-thick concrete walls has been transformed in offices, meeting rooms and presentation areas as well as flexible workspaces for the development, testing, training, demonstration and manufacture of unmanned systems and products.
