New aircraft stands opened at Twente Airport
On Wednesday 7 July, the three new aircraft stands (VOPs) were officially opened. Exactly one year ago, the first five VOPs were taken into use and with these three new ones, a total of eight VOPs have been realised at Twente Airport. Last week, the first new aircraft stand at the head of the runway was already taken into use by Air Mauritius' A340, which has already produced a lot of nice pictures. This aircraft will remain here until it is decommissioned by AELS.
Besides temporarily parking aircraft from AELS, the VOPs are also suitable for parking aircraft from both airlines and leasing companies that are not currently in use. Besides parking, maintenance companies carry out light maintenance work on these aircraft on site. This is important as the aircraft would otherwise lose their airworthiness and thus their value. The parking areas thus contribute to the gradual build-up of the airport's garage function. Medium-sized aircraft can do very well at the airport. A solution is being worked on for the very largest aircraft, so that they can land and take off. Twente Airport is currently working on a future plan for the airport and will not make any new major investments until a decision has been taken.
