The company was born out of research at the University of Twente. The basic idea originated in 2007-2008. Ysbrand Wijnant worked in Professor Tijdeman's UT Department of Technical Mechanics. He discovered how sound, could affect sound. Together with UT, Wijnant recorded the ideas in a Patent obtained in 2009. With the help of NovelT, the company 4silence was created around this patent.  In recent years, technical and economic viability has been proven given the current market position, customers, turnover and result development. The company developed stably and clear choices were made, establishing a solid position in the market. Ysbrand Wijnant as CTO and Eric de Vries as CEO jointly form the couple that gives this company direction.

4Silence

4Silence develops and supplies noise-reducing products to be installed along roads and railways. These products bend the noise upwards, reducing the nuisance experienced by surrounding residential areas. European legislation sets tough noise requirements: 50dB for all new roads, max 65dB for all existing roads.

Eric de Vries: ‘Thanks to projects at home and abroad, we outgrew our office at Kennispark. We were not only looking for a larger business location, but also for premises with a story and an authentic look, as well as a place where we could test our products on location. At Technology Base, with 200 square metres, we have more space available and can test with test rigs in a more efficient way. The remote and secluded location, the various large-scale outdoor facilities with controllable traffic noise in the background make it easier for us to conduct research and test our products faster.’
