TKH Airport Solutions equips Turkish runway with innovative non-contact and energy-efficient ground lighting
TKH Airport Solutions, with a test and demonstration site at Technology Base, has won the contract for airfield ground lighting (‘AGL’ for short), based on CEDD® technology, for the second runway at Sabiha Gökçen International Airport in Istanbul, Turkey. The contract includes a hybrid solution, with all addressable lighting, including that for the taxiways, supplied in CEDD® AGL technology - TKH's innovative non-contact power and communication technology. The central runway will be equipped with LED technology.
Sabiha Gökçen International Airport saw over 35 million passengers in 2019 and is the second busiest airport in Turkey, and the 12th in Europe. The airport decided to expand with a second runway. Due to Sabiha Gökcen's efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions, the airport received LEED certification earlier this year, putting it among a select group of global airports. The choice of TKH's CEDD® technology fits perfectly with the airport's environmentally conscious vision and will result in a significant reduction in energy consumption compared to traditional LED lighting installations.
Erik Velderman, CEO of TKH Airport Solutions: ‘We are proud to have been selected, after an extensive procedure, as the supplier of innovative AGL for Sabiha Gökçen. After several successfully implemented projects with CEDD®, Sabiha Gökçen's choice is proof of our unique and distinctive technology for airports. We look forward to working with AKBA on this project.’
Osman Aksoy, co-founder of AKBA Technology & Defense Industry: ‘We are pleased that all our hard work to put TKH Airport Solutions, with its innovative CEDD® technology, on the map at Sabiha Gökçen Airport has resulted in winning one of the most important tenders in Turkey. We now look forward to working with TKH on the project and making it a success, as well as jointly tapping into new opportunities in Turkey and abroad.’
Delivery and installation of the CEDD® AGL system starts immediately. Completion of the new runway is scheduled for the end of 2020.
