4Silence transforms bunker into fully-fledged, sustainable business location
4Silence, former spin-off of the University of Twente has received the key to their new business location at Technology Base from board chairman Jeroen Diepemaat. Their new premises are a building with a story: a former bunker has been transformed by Technology Base into a fully-fledged, sustainable office location, where 4Silence has all the space it needs to develop, test and research.
‘Technology Base has already converted and leased several F16 - shelters and hangars to technology companies. We were able to offer 4Silence a special and characteristic building, which also suited their needs in terms of surface area,’ says Joep van Aaken, development manager for Technology Base. CEO Eric de Vries of 4Silence is very happy with a very special office location: a former munitions depot, with the appearance of a bunker. Eric: ‘Thanks to projects at home and abroad, we outgrew our office at Kennispark. We were not only looking for a larger business location, but also for premises with a story and an authentic look, as well as a place where we could test our products on location. At Technology Base, with 200 square metres, we have more space available and can test with test rigs in a more efficient way. The secluded and shielded location, the various large-scale outdoor facilities with controllable traffic noise in the background make it easier for us to conduct research and test our products faster.
Technology Base
Jan Schuring, director Technology Base: ‘Technology Base is a unique location for technology companies with a drive for innovation, who are ready for the next step from ‘start-up’ to ‘scale-up’, such as 4Silence. Companies establishing themselves at Technology Base are collaboration-oriented and part of a community. They share facilities, knowledge and see opportunities to develop business cases together.’
Technology Base offers not only the physical space, but also the preconditions, such as a legally valid zoning plan for testing. Moreover, thanks to the preservation of historical elements, Technology Base is a location where people like to come. Eric de Vries: ‘That is important for us, because our potential clients have to see and experience the product to be convinced of the solution we offer. Everything comes together at Technology Base: an authentic building with a story and all the possibilities, space and facilities to test and demonstrate the product.’
Twente
The location near the University of Twente, the companies that already know us nearby, the fact that Twente is the gateway to Europe and the hub to Germany as a potentially large sales market, are the main arguments for 4Silence to stay in Twente. To actually grow, staying in Twente is the most logical choice.
About 4Silence
At 4Silence, proven and easily applicable noise-reducing solutions for infrastructure are conceived, researched and developed. The WHIS®stone, WHIS®wall and WHIS®top reduce traffic noise in a completely new way: by deflecting it. This is also called diffraction. This makes noise reduction more attractive, more durable, more cost-effective and better.
