Additional aircraft parking spaces
At Technology Base, Twente Airport has started building five additional aircraft parking stands. The first new aircraft stands (VOPs) have been put into use. The two Airbus A220 aircraft, which are temporarily parked at Twente Airport, use these stands. In addition, Strukton is currently working hard to realise the other three VOPs. These stands are expected to be completed by the end of June.
By building the aircraft stands, the airport is anticipating an increasing demand for space to temporarily park large passenger aircraft. The corona crisis is causing a temporary dip in transport demand, but a growing demand for aircraft parking spaces, for both the short and somewhat longer term. If transport demand grows again, the demand for maintenance will increase again.
Twente Airport therefore wants to use the new parking spaces not only for parking, but also expects to be able to provide space for maintenance activities. These maintenance activities provide opportunities for students who are studying to become aircraft mechanics in Zwolle, but also for regional companies, which are already active in aviation, such as Thales and Aeronamic.
These developments contribute to employment at Technology Base and economic development for the region.
