Solar Team Twente tests at Twente Airport
Solar Team Twente has today carried out their parametric tests on the runway at Twente Airport. This test is essential to collect the necessary data. All data will be entered into the simulation programme for the race in Australia, so that they can use it to accurately predict how the car will behave during the actual race.
Solar Team Twente is one of the largest student teams in the Netherlands and the team consists of students from the University of Twente, Saxion University of Applied Sciences and ROC van Twente.
Today was the test day, focussing on high speeds and how much energy the car uses. In addition to collecting data, the test is also used to make any improvements to the design and is also good practice for the team itself.
The Solar Team car is not allowed on public roads, so the runway at Twente Airport is the ideal location for these tests. The almost 3-kilometre runway offers more than enough time and space to safely perform various tests at high speeds.
Daniel Wonink, Logistics Manager: βIt is fantastic that the Twente team has been given the opportunity to test at Twente Airport. There are not many places where this is possible and the fact that there is such a long runway almost around the corner where we can carry out our tests undisturbed is ideal for us. Moreover, it is a unique location that you don't normally just stumble upon, which makes it even more special.β
We wish the Solar Team Twente the best of luck with the preparations and, of course, with the race itself in August!
