National Police use Twente Safety Campus facilities for forensic investigations and exercises

The Twente Safety Campus (TSC) and the National Police will cooperate in the field of forensic investigation. This collaboration will bring theory and practice together. The Expertise Centre Forensic Investigation of the National Police will use the facilities on the TSC in the near future. The police will practice there, investigate new techniques in the forensic field and share knowledge about them within their own organisation. With this, the TSC will become a ‘learning square’ for the police where realistic practice takes place. This is done simultaneously and coherently from different specialist knowledge areas.
'Knowledge development is an important pillar at the Twente Safety Campus. We cannot and will not do this alone, which is why we are pleased with this cooperation. In this way, we can concretely fulfil our role as safety centre for emergency services and knowledge institutions, among others,' explains Stephan Wevers, commander at the Twente Fire Department.
Annemarie Maandag, programme manager at the National Police: ‘When it comes to forensic investigations, we want to be able to act faster in the heartbeat of detection. Within a national programme, this is where we try to seek cooperation. With the facilities available at the Twente Safety Campus, we get the opportunity to further develop ourselves integrally at crime scenes in these areas. This is where real synergy can be achieved.'
