Perfect test site for solar car
Solar Team Twente would like to test the new solar car RED E as often as possible to be well prepared for the start of the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in October. Technology Base is therefore making part of its site available to carry out the tests.
Testing in Twente
On an enclosed taxiway at Technology Base, Solar Team Twente is carrying out tests with solar car RED E. A very suitable location for several reasons. The test site is just under half an hour's drive from the home base at Kanaalstraat. The track is about a kilometre long, which also allows the solar car to be tested at speed. This is important to test the brakes and wheel suspensions, for example. Furthermore, the test site is enclosed, allowing the team members to carry out their work in peace and quiet.
Former Twenthe airbase
The Twente solar team is familiar with similar locations. ‘We have already tested a lot this edition at Twente's former airbase,’ explains technical manager Sybren Wubs. ‘Then we tested a lot on the other side of the airfield at the event location. We really liked this location, but unfortunately it was much occupied next period. So we started looking for a new test location, which we found at Technology Base! We are immensely grateful that we can conduct our tests here in this ecosystem of technology companies, knowledge institutes and public organisations.’
Technology Base
Technology Base is located on a large part of the former Twenthe airbase. The site is home to several innovative and sustainable companies, an environment that suits the solar team well. In addition, the site is used by the police and fire brigade to practice disaster scenarios. Technology Base is known as a test location for companies that want to test, try out and push boundaries. A perfect location, therefore, for testing a high-tech solar car.
